The over month-long curfew in this sensitive town of East Uttar Pradesh was lifted today with the return of normalcy.A decision to this effect was taken after the situation in the riot-hit Mau normalised and Eid Milan programme passed off peacefully, Rajendra Pal Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Azamgarh Range told UNI. Day curfew in Mau was already lifted about ten days ago while night curfew continued to be imposed. From tonight, the night curfew would also be lifted. Mau was under curfew since October 14 last following communal riots which left eight people dead and about 37 injured. The district administration is making all out efforts to restore communal harmony in the town through various social activities like 'nukkad natak (street plays), Mr Singh informed.
